Warming soul-influenced songs with delicate beats

Rhinoceros live to silent movies
For our new program "NdDrums"we feature the drummer Frederik Heisler for our first tour in autumn 2014.
After a spontanous gig in spring 2014, we immediately felt comfortable with Fred. He seemed to be a natural extension of our duo. His musicality and his wide attention made it incredibly easy to play with him. The new songs are warming, soul influenced and focus on our enthusiasm for beautifull songwriting. On the demo recordings we used only sampled noise made by our instruments to construct the beats. At the live gigs Fred will transpose these sound into delicate live drumming.
Collaborations with other stage arts make it possible for us to experiment with musical structures in a completely refreshing way.

„Frederik Heisler's Magnetband really honors it's name, I've seen it two times and the magnetic force keeps getting stronger by the minute! These guys are really a band,
great tunes, and great party vibe, open, full of fresh energy and a refreshing vital sound and approach to the musical experience. Shouldn’t be missed! They will demolish any preconceptions you have about euro-jazz, surprise surprise...“ - Jorge Rossy (Brad Mehldau Trio, Wayne Shorter)

That's where I teach.
I work as a vocal coach and singing teacher since 2008. I offer individual, as well as group lessons. From September 2013-June 2014 I had to chance to work as a singing teacher at Newpark Centre in Dublin in the Berklee and Bachelor Degree course.
Furthermore I work as a vocal coach in the Liebefeld Gosperchoir. Get further information on the Vokal-Lokal webpage or contact me if you have any questions.

I am incredibly happy to be a part of this wonderful band. The four musicians create a band sound that manages to surprise and inspire me over and over again.
New ideas and possibilities arise through the playful use of improvisation as well as through the freedom of improvisation. I very easily get carried away, by the amazing groove and refreshing energy of this group. Thanks!

I can use my instrument in a very different way in this group. Especially the blending of these five voices keep inspiering me to write arrangements and songs for voice-department.

Most of our gigs are at weddings. We have a large repertoire with popsongs and wedding hits. Our speciality is to play at the ceremony but we also play at parties. Visit our facebook page to listen to some of the songs.
The Rhinoceros is a very large mammal, and humans have not jet managed to domesticate it. Despite its large body it is agile and quick, and dew to its adaptability it has lived the planet for millions of years. Rhinos are known as loners at daytime, whereas they assemble at night to attend to their social duties.
We met in the music college in Bern. We played together in many different groups and bands, and started playing as a duo in 2011. We first played jazz standards, pop songs and ballads written by some of our musical heroes. One night we decided to record our first album, and therefore we arranged all the originals that we wrote in the last years for our Duo. Although the diversity of the songs was tremendous we decided to release them all together on one album. “Time to spoil…” became an absolutely colourful collection of jazz ballads, pop songs, improvisations and bizarre theatrical chansons. We toured through Switzerland with our little car, packed with amps, synthesizer, guitars and all kinds of toys. Some of the organizers were puzzled as they watched us unpacking. Despite all the warnings they expected a jazz-influences singer-songwriter duo. Our music was peculiar, without compromise and fairly bizarre. We sang and played about the characters of everyday life that aren’t very well known, and some listeners were overtaken by the distinct nature of our sound. I wrote the songs for “Time to spoil..” in a time where I barley listened to music. I enjoyed the silence most and the songs were written without any musical influence. On our second tour we found ourselves in absolutely wonderful sounding rooms and decided to play some concerts without any equipment. Florian played a number of songs with open tunings and I enjoyed singing unplugged very much. I loved it, because I could play with the room and I could let go in a way that was new to me. In September 2013 I moved to Dublin to work at the Newpark Centre of music as a singing teacher in the Bachelor and Berklee course. The songs that I wrote in Ireland are inspired by the sea and by the quiet way I led my life. Florian also put down his new ideas and we shared them online. Whenever I came to Berne we rehearsed and arranged our new songs and slowly developed our concept for our new program “NoDrums?”. We first had the idea of recording beats and using them as a play along on stage. But after we played a spontaneous gig with Fred Heisler, it was very clear for all of us that we had to go on as a trio. We’re planning our first tour in autumn 2014.
